Recently I wrote the post about the difference between Зачем and Почему and soon I received email with the question " What is the difference between two Russian almost similar words потому и поэтому?
That's obvious, that these two Russian words are almost similar the difference is only in one vowel «э»
But «потому что» can be translated as because, and «поэтому» better to translate as as a consequence or that’s why.
Let’s take one example and have a look at this rule. I think that everything should be clear.
Потому is always in front of that part of the sentence where is the reason.
For example: Я уснула, потому что очень устала.
I felt asleep, because I was tired. (the reason was that I was tired)
Поэтому is situated in that part of the sentence that denotes the reason and means "that's why» or «as a consequence»
For example: Я очень устала, поэтому уснула.
I was very tired, that's why I felt asleep
The rule is: first you should find the reason and then choose between these two variants.
Is that clear? Let's check it!
Choose between 2 variants and write down your answer in the comment box.
Потому or поэтому?
